A collection of New Orleans-inspired stories and poetry that sometimes taps into the dark side of the soul. The two short stories are told from completely different perspectives during the first few days after Hurricane Katrina. In The Second Night, a father stays behind to guard his home while his family evacuates to Memphis. The Drawing tells the story of a man trapped on the roof of a house as the water rises. In time he is joined by others, including a little dog named Mookie and a gator. The first piece in the collection is an autobiographical account of the author's first visit to the Big Easy. Interspersed throughout are poems and photographs, all with a New Orleans theme. The final piece, Sunrise on the Mississippi, is a subtle poem that ends this journey through New Orleans on just the right note.
