RAP breaks down the timeline of hip-hop rap culture into four eras spanning from 1979 to the current rap climate of 2020. The four eras are broken down as: The Foundational Era, The Golden Era, The Millennial Era, and the current Zoomer Era. Each era is compared to the other by the four elements the author found to be present in the current rap environment. The four elements are: The Drug Culture, Criminality, Attention, and Popularity. These four elements are considered "New Aged" elements as they are derived from the current hip-hop rap culture. These four elements are not to be confused with the four elements of hip-hop culture: Rapping, Breaking, Deejaying, and Graffiti. These elements are only taken from the rapping element of hip-hop. The author uses the four new-aged rap elements to compare their presence in each of the four eras of rap culture.
