In this sequel to The Breeding Ground, the oldest known vampire, Philippe, was created in the year 1015 by a race of beings called Ralians who instructed him to go forth and make more of his kind in order to conquer earth for them. They are patient, vampiric beings that require blood to sustain their lives and travel from world to world once conquered for them by whatever dominant life-form on the world existed. For earth, it was humans. Thus Philippe, a young man in his twenties, was turned into a vampire. Over the centuries to follow, Philippe created thousands of vampires. The humans, learning that vampires were among them from a rogue group of vampires who had regained their humanity - no longer killing humans - fought back and were winning until the Ralians returned giving Philippe extra power, the Glow, which increased his and his followers strength and speed.
