In 2014 a member of a respected professional writing club decided to teach local high school students the basics of memoir writing. At one participating school each year, students in an English class were asked to interview senior citizens and record the fascinating stories they were told. For the 2017-2018 school year, juniors from University Preparatory High School in Victorville, CA, spent many hours over the school year listening to and recording the memories of selected elders. Many of the senior citizens chosen were family members, but several were total strangers to their memoir writers at the beginning of the year. Footprints from Around the World: A Collection of Memoir Stories, is the third in a continuing series of books compiled and published through the Dorothy C. Blakely Memoir Project, which is conducted by the High Desert Branch of the California Writers Club. The memoirs contained in this book will make you cry and make you laugh but more importantly will, hopefully, present to readers the great diversity of culture and experiences that can be found in today's world.
